Hours and Directions

 

 

Gardening classes are offered on many Saturdays throughout the season.  Classes are FREE!  However we ask that you email or call to sign up so we have sufficient materials ready and can notify you of any change   

We also have many special events throughout the season to benefit local charities & projects.

 

EVENTS

May 8th & 9th - Plant Addicts Weekend
Bring Mom and your friends! Grab a complimentary cup of coffee or lemonade & walk our beautiful display gardens for inspiration. Expert growers, designers and gardeners will be on hand to answer your questions and give free advice on plant care. Shopping opportunities will be at their peak -- browse our huge selection of perennials, ornamental grasses, specialty annuals, herbs, native plants, water plants, pottery, birdhouses, garden art, garden care products & natural body care products.   We're planning big surprises...you'll have to come and see!
May 14th -16th - Tri State Christian School Fundraising Days
Plant the seed of faith & grow the blessings at Tri State Christian School in Galena.               

A  donation of 5% of our total sales will be donated to this wonderful school. (Our son Kyle attends here)

Learn all about birds’ nests and nest boxes from Polly Brill of Wild Birds Unlimited.  Discover what birds will nest in your yard, where they will next, what kind of habitat will attract them and what you can do to help

 

May 15th—1:00 p.m.    Identification and Treatment of Invasive and Exotic Plant Species  

Learn how to identify, eliminate & manage invasive plants in your woods & gardens.  Presented by Diane Beemster

 

May 15th—2:30  p.m.  Dirty Secrets  - Healthy soil means healthy plants & healthy people.  Learn about soil, compost and organic gardening practices.   Presented by Carole Pouzar of Revery Forests and Barnyard Best fame!

 

May 22nd-11:00 a.m.  Hummingbirds & Orioles

Everyone’s favorite backyard migratory birds are finally here!  Find out what you can do to attract them to your yard and keep them there all summer.  Julie Bruser of Wild Birds Unlimited will give this program that will also share some amazing facts about these gorgeous birds.

 

May 22nd—1:00 p.m.   - “Made in the Shade’ - Shade Gardens   

There is much more to shade gardens than Hostas!  Learn about the many plants and design options availalbe for a shady space.   Presented by Candy Crossley of  Flor Essence

 

 May 29th - 11:00 a.m.   Pruning Primer

Carole Pouzar, owner Revery Forests and Master Gardener will discuss and demonstrate the proper techniques, tools & timing for  pruning & maintaining shrubs, trees & perennials.  

 

May 29nd—1:00 p.m.  - Growing & Using Fresh Herbs   

Tips on growing and using a wide variety of culinary herbs both in the landscape & containers.     Free recipes.     Presented by Lori Murphy, Murphy’s Gardens

 

June 5th – 11:00 a.m.  “What’s bugging your plants?”  

 Laurie Mattas, Master Gardener & employee of Murphy’s Gardens will discuss how to identify what disease or insect is affecting the health of your plants.

 

 June 5th – 1:00 p.m.  Weed & Insect Eradication - the Earth friendly way

 Carol Pouzar, oraganic gardener and Master Gardener will discuss & demonstrate several methods of controlling weeds and insects using organic and sustainable gardening methods.  

 

June 12th - 11:00 a.m. Backyard Bullies

Polly  Brill of Wild Birds Unlimited will do some nuisance wildlife problem-solving for you.  She will answer your questions and share possible solutions for starlings, grackles, squirrels, raccoons, deer and other critters that are gobbling up your birds seed and your garden

 

June 12th - 1:00 p.m.   Bring Them Up Right”          

Lori Murphy of Murphy’s Gardens will discuss the correct way to select, plant & care for your perennials including proper site placement, fertilization & maintenance tips.  Something for beginners & experienced gardeners.

 

June 19th - 11:00 a.m.  Butterflies

Learn about the fascinating life cycles of these beautiful creatures from Julie Bruser of Wild Birds Unlimited.  You’ll find out what species we have in this area and what you can plant to attract them.  Many of these plants are available at Murphy’s Gardens !

June 19th - 1:00 p.m.  Hydrangeas 101

Ever wonder why the big beautiful blue hydrangea you bought doesn’t bloom?  Or when to prune, how to fertilize or where to plant them?  Learn about different varieties and their care.  By Lori Murphy of Murphy’s Gardens
