Murphy’s Gardensis a friendly “boutique” retail garden center— a greenhouse/nursery and fresh produce farm located only 3 miles from historic downtown Galena, IL in scenic Jo Daviess County. We are conveniently located just one mile off of Hwy 20 on the west side of Galena, just minutes from Dubuque, IA and Platteville WI. We have been told that we have the nicest plants in all of the Tri-State area!

We strive to offer a unique & diverse selection of plants at reasonable prices. While our specialty & passion is perennials & ornamental grasses, we also grow specialty annuals, native plants, a huge selection of herbs, flowering shrubs and vegetable plants including almost 2 dozen varieties & many heirlooms. Our plants are not shipped here in trucks and unloaded in a parking lot! We plant & pamper our plants on site to “bring them up right!” Propagation of most of our plants begins from seed, cutting, division or plug in our 5 greenhouses & numerous field beds. With the exception of shrubs all plants are carefully potted here & all are lovingly pampered by our staff. Sustainable & organic growing methods are implemented as our main method of growing. We believe in growing & testing what we sell, so our perennial display beds feature hundreds of cultivars in various stages of growth. Customers are encouraged to grab a complimentary cup of coffee or lemonade and walk through our acres of beautiful display gardens & learn about the habits of the plants available for purchase.

Our staff is passionate about gardening & you will leave here with more than plants. You will leave with practical knowledge & the details about their culture & care. We have Master Gardeners, Landscape Designers and Growers on staff. We know our plants and we’re happy to share our knowledge with you!
