Welcome to Murphy’s Gardens!  

We are a friendly, family-run, greenhouse, garden center and fresh produce farm located only 3 miles from Galena, IL in JoDaviess County in the far NW corner of IL, 12 miles from Dubuque, IA and 20 miles from Platteville, WI.   

Our 7 greenhouses are bursting with a vast & diverse collection of perennials, ornamental grasses, perennial vines, native plants, specialty annuals, culinary herbs, vegetables, water plants, hanging baskets, container gardens, flowering shrubs and a few dwarf conifers.   Our mission is to grow the healthiest,  highest quality plants available.  Countless customers have told us that our plants are the highest quality they have seen  & that they thrive in their gardens.   We attribute this to the fact that they are not unloaded off of trucks into a parking lot. Instead they are lovingly potted in our own greenhouses and  cared for by our knowledgeable staff using sustainable growing practices.  

To complement our fine selection of plants, we offer an eclectic gathering of glazed pottery, birdbaths, birdhouses, locally crafted garden decor, one-of-a- kind garden sculptures and other enhancements to personalize your landscape.  Seeds, tools, fertilizer, potting materials, gloves and earthy friendly gardening products are also offered.

In fall, our shop takes on a Farmer’s Market feel and the focus shifts to our naturally grown, fresh-from-the-field, organically grown produce such as tomatoes, peppers, onions, potatoes & much more. Midwest peaches, local apples, homegrown pears, jams, honey and natural body care products and many gift items are available.  Pumpkins, squash, gourds, mums & other fall decor items round out the season.

When you visit our nursery, you are also invited to wander through our acres of display gardens for inspiration & education.  We believe in growing what we sell so our dozens of display beds feature hundreds of cultivars in various stages of growth.   

Our knowledgeable staff includes growers, landscape designers, Master Gardeners and experienced gardeners.  We have a wealth of information and experience and we are happy to answer your questions.   We hope to see you soon!
